On Gardening, Healing, and Transitional Housing

I just received this story from my friend Christina Cummings. She is part of a community garden in Seattle’s Central District:

Brianca Delany recently proved that helping people grow their own food and connecting with a garden
plot is more powerful than you can imagine. Brianca is a survivor of domestic violence and was living in
transitional housing when we first met. A first time gardener, she writes about her experience in the garden.

“I learned about creativity, abundance, and the miracles of life, death,
and rebirth in the garden. I got to experience the power of creativity
and determination to be proactive in my healthcare with proper nutri-
tion. By the end of the season, my overall health improved and it
showed in my weight loss of 40 lbs. I’m learning to live in harmony
with nature, especially my true nature–still discovering my true identity
outside of the violence. This whole experience helped me in my healing
process from the impacts of violence in my life. I got to see first hand
the natural abundance that surrounds me and learned to let go of
scarcity thinking which was a side effect of me living in poverty,
living in fear of my survival.” ~Brianca Delany

Brianca now lives in permanent housing and is gearing up for her second gardening season.Gardening is More Than Good Food
